The Top 10 Unique Features of Navisworks

Navisworks gives you several features that will be improved as a result of user feedback in the coming months. The new features of Navisworks won't affect your workflow's quality, consistency, or efficiency. Aside from that, Autodesk will be developing its features so that they are compatible with cloud computing.

Having heard that Navisworks could do it better here, Navisworks collaborated with you to develop a plan to accomplish this while maintaining Navisworks' high standards of performance.

Multithread Clash Detection

Navisworks has a feature called Multithread Clash detection that detects or checks interference three times faster than in-build interference checking. It is 1.5 times faster for users to export than networks.

BIM 360 Glue Integrations

Integrating BIM 360 Glue into the desktop connector or cloud gives users access to the latest project data. Using Navisworks, it can be merged into a model. Navisworks users will automatically save their modified Navisworks models as merged models in BIM360.

BIM 360 Shared Views

BIM 360 shared views dialog must be opened first. Next, click new, and fill in a name and save the file in the destination folder. This newly created Shared view is accessible to any BIM 360 GLUE client that is connected to it.

Highlighted Section cutouts

There have been several positive responses to this feature so far. Using the cut plane highlight feature, you can easily visualize sections. Clear communication with project team members is crucial when it comes to complex coordination issues.

IFC File Reader

IFC files can be read on their own using the file reader.

Supported Entities

  1. Facing B-Reps.
  2. Area solids extruded.
  3. Sets of geometric data.
  4. Models based on the face and the surface.
  5. Curves: simple, trimmed, and composite.
  6. Surfaces of simple forms.
  7. Profiles that are simple parametric, arbitrary, or derived.
  8. CSG operations for voiding and projection on element-level results and Boolean clipping.
  9. Items with basic style and mapping.
  10. There are two types of property sets: simple and complex.

Unsupported Entities

  1. A Voided B-Rep.
  2. Solids bounded by half-spaces.
  3. Parametric profiles with complex parameters.
  4. Curves of B-Splines.
  5. Styles of curves.
  6. The surfaces have been swept.
  7. A complex lighting effect and textures.
  8. The loading of server-based IFC models.

DGN File Reader

Bentley's MicroStation can export 3D DGN and PRP files to Autodesk Navisworks, but not 2D DGN or CEL files. During selection, referenced files and cell instances are respected, and the Selection Tree reflects this.

BIM Coordination

A collaboration workflow has been launched between two of Autodesk's most popular clash detection and design review tools, Autodesk Navisworks and BIM 360 Model Coordination.

At the design review stage of projects, the software is used by engineers, architects, and contractors to identify clashes and other issues before they become problems later on in the construction process. Nowadays, contractors are not able to hold the meetings necessary to facilitate these processes as frequently, as a result of social distancing.

Autodesk BIM 360 may be part of Construction Cloud, but Navisworks is a desktop application with strong data-driven parametric modeling capabilities.

Quantification

With Navisworks, different disciplines are already fused into a federated model. Then you can take the elements of the model off and turn them into constructible Items; these may contain items such as materials and preliminary information. The quantitative data will then be combined into a reporting format which will then be able to be exported to a spreadsheet or an API connection can be built for use in an estimating system, allowing you to cost directly from the Building Information Model. Change Analysis can be run to ensure that the correct quantities are displayed in your takeoff, and allow you to quickly identify any items that have been added or deleted. BIM offers the opportunity to connect with a group of people who may never have been exposed to anything other than paper drawings or a 2D modeling plan. They are now included in the process of modifications and refinements.

Project Viewing

Construction projects are coordinated by people, not by Autodesk Navisworks. In this class, participants are going to learn how to manage teams and review projects effectively using Navisworks and BIM 360 Glue. Among many other tips and tricks included in the presentation are how to set up templates, how to use clash detectives, how to prepare for meetings, how to follow-up with follow-up actions, and how to trend coordination along with others.

Important Takeaways

  1. Identify how clash tests and rules are set up
  2. Explore the benefits of filtering and grouping clashes
  3. Manage meetings effectively using the model-review method
  4. Here are tips and tricks to help you manage projects effectively

Model Review

  1. A single model can be constructed from aggregated data.
  2. Animations and simulations of models.
  3. Project review by the entire team.

Model Simulation & Analysis

  1. Data quantification has better interacted with it.
  2. Time and cost are included in 5D project scheduling.
